this is the first time i saw this and i sincerely think this is pretty good for a watercolor beginner. you handled it pretty well, showing a fair control on this tough-to-handle medium. i'm no expert at watercolors yet but i would suggest you get bigger brushes if you want to work on bigger spaces like the sky. it would give you more control and less "small strokes." unless your reference photo demands smaller strokes of course. also, you can try not painting over on white areas, it would make it more transparent and subtle. i know it sounds quite difficult, and it is but that's what makes it interesting. overall, i think this is quite good for a start and i support you using watercolors. do some more
I don't actually have bigger brushes! I'll have to buy some.
I wasn't sure ahead of time where I was going to put the white and I didn't really know enough about drawing waves to be able to plan around it. Leaving the page blank would definitely be preferable. I was kind of in a time crunch for this piece so I didn't really experiment with anything that would have taken longer.
Thanks so much for the critique! I'm hoping to do another project this month soon
i wouldn't really call that a critique because i'm in no position to do that at all! just telling you what i know based from a teensy-tiny bit of experience. still i hope it helps. good luck!
